The best French baguette Competition in Paris

Traditional elections of the best masters of French baguette will be held in Paris on May 2 in the building of the Association of professional bakers (Chambre professionnelle des boulangers).

Like the Eiffel Tower, good wine and dainty cheeses, baguettes have become a national symbol of France. Identification of those who prepare the best traditional baked goods will be trusted not only to a professional jury but also to ordinary Frenchmen – organizers of the “championship” choose some lucky men every year.

Baguettes will be estimated by five specific and practical criterias – recipe, taste, flavor, cost of preparation and appearance of bakery products.

Ten of the best bakers will be announced in the early May of this year. The winner will receive a prize of 4 thousand Euro and, of course, a deserved fame. What about residents and visitors of Paris, so they will get an opportunity to learn which the bakeries should be visited to enjoy excellent French pastries.

Last year the winner of the competition became a baker Pascal Barillon, whose boulangerie «Au levain d’antan» is located at 6 rue des Abbesses in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.

By the way, in the same district – at Montmartre – a great romantic comedy “Amelie” (Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain) was made. You can also visit the famous Basilica of Sacre-Coeur (Basilique du Sacré Cœur), built on the highest point of the city or just walk the streets, remembering hundreds of famous artists and writers like such legendary persons as Vincent van Gogh, Gauguin, Edgar Degas, Émile Zola, Henri Matisse, Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec and many others.
