The director of Musee d’Orsay Guy Cogeval calls its reconstruction the second birth. He says that now this unique Parisian collection of impressionists and post- impressionists will have absolutely new face.
But when Mr. Cogeval took up its position, nobody had believed in possibility of fairly radical changes of the building of the museum, especially taking into account its historical status. And as a result we can see many changes in Musee d’Orsay, made for its 25th anniversary.
For example, the exhibition area was increased significantly, narrow corridors and dead ends had been relegated to oblivion. Instead of “hospital” white color the walls of the halls are now painted in different colors.
“Do not forget that initially paintings were created not for museums, they had decorateв the houses,” – Guy Cogeval explains this decision. – “The museum space has acquired a completely different look – and it looks great”.
Collection of Musee d’Orsay includes not only paintings, but photographs, sculptures and furniture. However, the represented collection of famous painters – Manet, Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Sisley, Renoir, Van Gogh and Gauguin is the most known.
The paintings of these famous artists can be seen in the newly opened after the reconstruction Musee d’Orsay starting from October 20.
