All passengers traveling on their own think about how to use public transport in the best way. In Paris transport system is well developed and you can easily get to anywhere in the city. In addition to metro lines there are 3 tram lines and numerous bus lines. In this article we will tell you how to buy tickets for the metro in Paris.

In Paris a single transport company manages all public transport. Buy a week ticket and you will be able to use it for the subway, trams, buses, and even for local trains RER.

Paris and the suburbs are divided into 5 zones. To move around Paris the ticket for 1-3 zones will be enough. Moreover, 90% of sights are located in the first zone, so, probably, you will live in the first zone. However, if you think of going to Disneyland or Versailles which are located in zones 4 and 5 you’ll have to buy a special ticket.

Single trip

The ticket is called Ticket t + and is valid for the metro, tram, bus and RER (suburban train)  to move around the city. The cost of one ticket in 2013 was1.70 EUR.

You can save your money buying 10 tickets at once. Altogether it will be 13.30 EUR.

Paris metro tickets

1 day pass

The ticket is called Mobilis. It is valid from 5-30 am to 01-00 the next day.

This ticket will be perfect if you want to go to Disney. It will be cheaper than two one-way single tickets, because in this case, you should buy a ticket with the exact destination.

Week travel

Attention!! Tickets are valid from Monday to Sunday. Thus, if you come on a Thursday, it will not make sense to buy a pass for a week. It will be better to buy a Paris Visite pass.

If you bought a week ticket for 1-3 zones but want to go to Disney or Versailles, you should buy a special ticket.

To purchase such a ticket, you can contact the staff of the transport company, or you can buy it in the machine by typing the destination. Tickets price will vary according to the length of the path.

Night buses

If you want to get back home at night after the metro is closed, you can use night buses Noctilien. There are 5 starting points from which buses go to all corners of the Paris region. However, you will need to specify in advance the route on the site.

For night buses you can use your regular tickets.
